Helping our community to learn about singing
The BBC Singers learning and outreach work connects with a diverse range of people - from primary and secondary school children, to workplace choirs and the next generation of composers, conductors and musicians. Major initiative’s such as Pitch Perfect - a new football anthem help to raise the profile of choral singing through the creation of partnerships with organisations such as Arsenal and Chelsea Football Clubs, the Goethe Institut-London and other BBC departments such as BBC Sport and BBC 21st Century Classroom.
Other projects that have connected with communities and supported schools and their music teaching have been Weaving the Future, developed in partnership with Lancashire County Council, The Ballad of Bethnal Green, which was created in partnership with Oxford House Community Centre, and Making Tracks, a Radio 3 project which has supported the BBC Singers through concert giving and mini-tours to London partner boroughs, reaching over 12000 young people since 2004.
Our latest project is GoSing! which aims to develop a learning strategy for 24 primary schools in our partner boroughs, as well as offering teacher vital INSET training sessions and mentor support. GoSing! also supports workplace choirs through our Singers in the City season, and community choir support across London.
