BBC Singers: Sopranos |
Jennifer Adams-Barbaro studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she won the Lieder Prize and Countess of Munster Scholarship to further her studies in opera. She was a world finalist in the prestigious Pavarotti Prize. Jennifer combines working with the BBC Singers with solo engagements, and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. |
Margaret Feaviour was born in Leeds and studied at the Leeds College of Music before moving to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music. In addition to her work with the BBC Singers she is a member of the choir at St. Margaret's Church Westminster Abbey, the Parish Church of the Houses of Parliament. She manages to fit in several concerts a year as a soloist and loves spending time at home looking after her three cats. |
Although Micaela Haslam studied bassoon and piano at University, she always loved to sing, and eventually went to the Royal Academy of Music to study singing as a Post Graduate. From there, she mainly involved herself in Early and Contemporary music projects then, for a complete change, joined the Swingle Singers! In addition to her BBC job-share with Alison Smart, she still does a lot of singing on microphone (with composers such as Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen and Steve Mackey, and in a variety of sessions). This is in her other capacity as director of Synergy Vocals. |
Elizabeth Poole studied at the Royal Academy of Music and joined the Singers in 2000. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, eating and playing string quartets badly. She has never seen 'The Sound of Music'. |
Olivia Robinson was born in Salisbury and studied music at Lancaster University a while ago. She then plunged into the world of arts administration, working for the likes of Salisbury Festival, Welsh National Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Singing gradually took over, and she joined the Singers in October 2003. The endless variety of the job helps keep her on her toes and free time is taken up with her baby daughter Catherine, cooking, gardening and planning her wedding. |
Alison Smart joined the Singers full time in 1995 after a career in book editing and free-lance singing. She currently shares one of the soprano jobs with Micaela Haslam, who is also from Newcastle upon Tyne! Alison trained at the RNCM and TCM and now studies with Marie Hayward Segal. She has recorded two solo CDs of contemporary song, including 20 songs by British composers which she commissioned. She is training to be a conductor in her spare time. |
Emma Tring read music at Bristol University then returned to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she met her current teacher Jane Highfield. After 5 years of teaching singing and freelancing as a soloist in both opera and oratorio, Emma has found herself a full-time member of the BBC Singers soprano section.
The highlight of this year (as well as getting the job) was marrying Robin Martin between two palm trees in Zapallar, Chile!
