BBC Singers: Altos |
Lynette Alcántara studied singing and music education at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Whilst working with the Victoria State Opera she won the National Liederfest prize enabling her to travel to the UK to study with Audrey Langford. Lynette joined the Singers in 1993 after working for the Monteverdi Choir, and continues to freelance as a soloist in recital, opera and oratorio.
Lynette loves teaching singing and is Director of Music at Wolfson College, Cambridge, and Choral Animateur for King’s College Cambridge Choir Outreach Initiative. Her hobbies include dancing, gardening, and cooking the produce from her allotment.

Margaret Cameron studied at Trinity and the Royal College of Music and then spent several years travelling the country, performing operas in tents, chicken sheds (complete with chickens) and the occasional theatre. She works with groups as diverse as the Monteverdi Choir and Electric Voice Theatre and is delighted to be joining the BBC Singers to job share with Lynette Alcantara. In her spare time she is slowly renovating her damp but charming seaside home. |
Jacqueline Fox was born at Hampton Court and studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music. After working with The Consort of Musicke, she joined the BBC Singers. She has given recitals, notably on BBC Radio 3, in the Purcell Room and as far afield as Canada, most often with guitar. She enjoys cycling and jazz. |
Rebecca Lodge is thrilled to be the latest addition to the alto section, having survived 10 years of freelancing. Her greatest passions are her three children and musical theatre - and she has the dubious distinction of being the only BBC Singer (as far as she knows) to have performed at HM Prisons Brixton, Wormwood Scrubs and Wandsworth. |
Siân Menna is the only fluent Welsh speaker in the BBC Singers which is so handy for the many 'Welsh' programmes they undertake! She is married to Ed Price (see bass section) - which she sees as another reason for enjoying her job. |
After successfully combining a career as a soloist with life as a vicar's wife and mother of four, Cherith Millburn-Fryer is thrilled to be the first ever granny appointed to the BBC Singers. She was last in the group before some current members were even born and so is shocked to find that evening dress is no longer required for rehearsals! It is a relief however to discover that the early start to sing the Daily Service has disappeared from the schedule.
