Wait
until Dark first appeared on the New York stage in 1966, and
was written by Frederick Knott, who also wrote the classic Dial
M for Murder.
The
plot centres on
Sam Henderson and his recently blinded wife, Susy. Sam is a photographer
who, while returning from a trip abroad, meets a woman in the airport
who asks him to hold onto a doll for her.
Unfortunately,
the doll is packed full of heroin and Mr Roat, a cunning psychopath,
wants it.
He
tracks it down to Susy's London flat and enlists two jailbird conmen
to help him win over Susy - and get her to hand it over.
Yet
while the three men try to get Susy to hand it over, there's a catch
- she doesn't know where it is.
And
it isn't long before Susy becomes suspicious of the men, which is
when it becomes clear that she has a trick or two up her sleeve
as well.

But
the three criminals are becoming more and more desperate in their
search for the doll and the stakes are getting higher. Can our heroine
successfully turn the tables on them and escape as the tension mounts?
Well,
you'll have to go and see the play to find out.

Theatre Company have chosen the setting of London during the 1960s
for this version of the play, although the original was set in New
York's Greenwich Village.
After
a successful Broadway run it was made into a film the following
year, starring Katherine Hepburn as Susy and Alan Arkin as the menacing
Mr Roat. The director was Terence Young, who also directed the first
three Bond films, and Hepburn was nominated for an Oscar for her
portrayal of Susy.
