Mains (part 2)

Pumpkin and Bat Pizzas
You will need....
For the dough....
½ tbsp dried yeast
Pinch sea salt
Pinch caster sugar
200g/7oz plain flour
½ cup lukewarm water
Dash olive oil
For the topping.....
Tomato purée/Pizza Sauce
Cheese
Chopped red/yellow/green peppers
Chopped mushrooms
Chopped onion
Mixed Herbs

(Makes 1 pumpkin or 2 bat pizzas)

Method:

To make the dough…

  • Mix the yeast, salt and sugar together with the flour.
  • Beat the olive oil and water into the dry ingredients to form a stiff dough (you could also do this with a food processor)
  • Once the dough is stiff sprinkle a little flour on the table/surface and knead it until the mixture is smooth and springy(should take 5 mins or so).
  • Grease a bowl with oil or butter and put the dough inside. Cover with a teatowel and leave in a warm place to rise for about 30 mins.
  • Roll out the dough and place onto a greased baking tray.
  • Using a sharp knife cut the dough into your shape (bat or pumpkin...or anything else you fancy!) and remove the excess.
  • Preheat the oven to approx 180-200 degrees or equivalent.

For the topping…

  • Cover the base in tomato puree, mixed herbs, cheese, onion, peppers and mushrooms.
  • If you are making the pumpkin remember to arrange the vegetables in the face shape (we used large pieces of coloured peppers).
  • Place in the oven for approx 15 minutes or untill dough is springy, and the topping is nicely browned.

There you go - a perfectly petrifying pizza!

Remember you can adjust the toppings and shapes to suit yourself… and if you're feeling lazy you can always nip to the supermarket and buy a pizza base rather than making it from scratch!

And there's more… we've got more main dishes and puddings for you too!
