Disqualified from boxing on false charges, former Olympics champion, Baldev Chaudhry (Dharmendra) retires to a life of disgrace and bitterness.

His eldest son, Angad (Sunny), adds insult to injury when he opts for a farming career rather than follow his father's footsteps.

Meanwhile, his younger brother Karan (Bobby), unable to take up boxing due to a disability, becomes a successful musician.

It is only when Baldev faces further humiliation as a boxing coach that his sons decide to take matters into their own hands in restoring their father's lost honour.

Unlike his previous action film The Hero - A Story Of A Spy, this time round director Anil Sharma concentrates more on family values and emotions with boxing as purely an underlying theme.

Veteran actor Dharmendra is the main star of this tearjerker, portraying flawlessly the feelings experienced as a stern father, a loving husband and a dejected boxer.

Noteworthy scenes include the ones in which father (Dharmendra) and son (Sunny) fail to see eye-to-eye - grabbing your full attention.

Sunny impeccably portrays the vulnerability and calmness of Angad but shows anger and fury when provoked.

Once again, Bobby shines by communicating with his body language, rather than dialogue.

The heroines, Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty and Katrina Kaif (of Namastey London fame) provide ample room for showcasing the heart-rending moments.

On the whole, Anil Sharma's Apne will appeal to the whole family - it's out with the hankies for this tearjerker!
