Rajveer Singh (Saif)
is a pit-crew worker in a racing team whose passion for driving gets noticed by
team manager, Harry (Jaaved). He
gets drafted into Speeding Saddles, a mediocre race team to prove his worth. His
racing career gets off to a flying start and so does his whirlwind romance with
music student, Radhika (Rani). In
no time, he is happily married with two kids, a home and a brilliant career. But
Rajveer's idyllic life is shattered by an accident, leading to a string of failures.
This forces him to auction all his possessions and move to a run-down neighbourhood.
How
he struggles to regain his former status forms the crux of an emotional and yet
exhilarating entertainer.
Siddarth Anand is not only innovative but also technically brilliant as a director.
His
execution of the thrilling car race sequences is exceptional. The
storytelling is further enhanced by Binod Prathan's articulate camera movements
capturing the races, the song sequences and New York city in a magnificent and
lavish style. Saif
Ali Khan excels as Rajveer as he adds spontaneity to his character during emotional
and sombre moments. Rani
Mukerji portrays Radhika's transformation from a music student to a mature and
conscientious mother/wife with great proficiency. This actress is a natural. But
it is Jaaved Jaaferi who takes you by surprise. Audiences will easily relate to
his Gujarati character of Harry who does his good deed in times of need. Ta
Ra Rum Pum shows how you should face up to your problems instead of burying your
head in the sand hoping that they will go away! Highly
recommended viewing. One of the best films to release this year. Reviewed
