Set in Punjab during the period of unrest when terrorists activities were at their highest peak, Des Hoyaa Pardes takes an emotional journey through the life of one specific family.

After the operation blue star, the peace and attitudes of the Punjabi people went through a traumatic period which changed their lives and their perceptions forever.

One such case was that of a humble farmer, Gurshan (Gurdaas Maan), to whom tilling his soil meant so much to him.

He did this for a living which fed his small family consisting of his mother (Tej Kaur), father (Gurdev Singh)and a young bubbly sister Guddi (Divya Dutta).

Surviving through the social unrest, the family saw some ups and downs and destiny added another member into their lives - Gurshan gets married to Jassi (Juhi Chawla), a pampered daughter of a police officer.

Things starts to look up for this humble family and with time the old wounds heal and pains forgotten.

And then comes the fateful night and that knock on their door which changes their entire lives forever.

A man who believed in patriotism now looses all his faith as his family is forced to separate.

But most of all Guddi is left with unfulfilled dreams.

A family who was just a spectator of the oppression and it's unjust ways, now becomes one of it's victims.

Des Hoyaa Pardes portrays the suffering of hundreds of people driven by emotional turmoil or discrimination in the 1980's.

They are forced to seek political asylum in countries abroad. But little did they realise the tragic consequences of taking such a step.

Cut off from their families, chased by their governments and not accepted by the western culture, these people undergo tremendous suffering.

This film captures not only the raw beauty of the Punjab life but also the pain and suffering of these people as they search for a better life abroad.

Punjabi movies are becoming very popular these days amongst the UK audience as recent cases proved.

These included Jee Aaya Nu and Asa Nu Maan Watana Da starring Harbhajan Maan. Both these films were box office hits in the UK cinemas.

Des Hoyaa Pardes is the latest offering from the Punjab film industry that stars Punjab's most popular singer Gurdas Maan.

The film also stars, Bollywood's most favourite heroines, Juhi Chawla.

Des Hoyaa Pardes is produced by Manjeet Maan and Kashmir Gill and directed by Manoj Punj.

Musical score for this film is by Jaidev Kumar whilst lyrics are by Gurdas Maan. The film releases in the UK cinemas on 14th January 2005.
