Director
Rituparno Ghosh of the Choker Bali fame makes a comeback with
his latest venture, Raincoat starring Aishwarya Rai and Ajay
Devgan in lead roles.

The
film concentrates on Manoj (Ajay Devgan) and Neeru (Aishwarya Rai),
two people coming from the same village of Bihar.
They
have always been in love with each other but circumstances and destiny
has separated these two characters.
The
story unfolds, as Manoj leaves his family home to travel to Kolkata
city in search of better prospects.

This
is his only hope to get him out of a financial crisis and also give
him an opportunity to meet his beloved Neeru.
She
is now married to someone with greater financial security.
So
one rainy day, borrowing his friend's raincoat, Manoj sets out to
visit the love of his life one more time.
The
film then goes into flashbacks as it explains the love story between
these two characters who have endured separation due to destiny.

The
rainy afternoon forms the backdrop as love for Neeru and Manoj comes
to the fore once again.
The
original script for this film was written by Rituparno in Bengali.
It
was later converted to Hindi by Usha Ganguly. The film releases
this December 2004.
