The film concentrates on Manoj (Ajay Devgan) and Neeru (Aishwarya Rai), two people coming from the same village of Bihar.

They have always been in love with each other but circumstances and destiny has separated these two characters.

The story unfolds, as Manoj leaves his family home to travel to Kolkata city in search of better prospects.

This is his only hope to get him out of a financial crisis and also give him an opportunity to meet his beloved Neeru.

She is now married to someone with greater financial security.

So one rainy day, borrowing his friend's raincoat, Manoj sets out to visit the love of his life one more time.

The film then goes into flashbacks as it explains the love story between these two characters who have endured separation due to destiny.

The original script for this film was written by Rituparno in Bengali.

It was later converted to Hindi by Usha Ganguly. The film releases this December 2004.
