Hari Prasad Sharma (Sunil Dutt), is a simple minded farmer who has one ambition in life.

And that is to see his son, Munna (Sanjay Dutt), becoming a doctor.

So to full fill his dreams, Hari sends Munna for his graduate studies with full financial backing.

But Munna’s destiny decides to take a sudden turn for the worse.

He gets dragged into the dreary world of gangsters and goons.

Instead of completing a doctorate’s degree, Munna ends up becoming Mumbai ‘s underworld don. He hides the truth from his father.

All goes well for Munna until his father decides to pay him a visit.

He has fixed his son’s marriage with a fellow doctor, by the name of Suman (Gracy Singh).

To impress his father, Munna poses as a doctor and even constructs a hospital. But this pickle proves to be an impossible task for Munna.

Its not long before Hari discovers the truth. And that’s when all hell breaks loose in the most comical way.

Hari is totally heartbroken, which prompts Munna to change his ways for the better. He decides to become a doctor.

The film faced a few cast changes during the planning stages.

Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to play the part of Munna but then he was replaced by Sanjay Dutt.

The female lead also underwent a lot of changes. Aishwarya Rai was first choice but since she was busy with her other films, she was replaced by Rani Mukherjee.

She too backed out and the role went to Tabu. But it was not long before she left too.

The role finally went to Gracy Singh of the Armaan fame.

Other characters in this film include Zaheer (Jimmy Shergill) who suffers from cancer but only wants the tender care of Dr Munnabhai.

There is Circuit (Arshad Warsi) who plays the sidekick of Munna throughout the film.

This comedy is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. His past achievement includes work in the editing department for Hindi films.

He recently received the Best Editor award at the Zee Cine Awards for director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Mission Kashmir.
