Sanjay
Mehra (Rakesh Roshan) is a scientist who has been trying to establish
the presence of life on other planets.
Using
a computer to transmit different sounds, he gets a response from
outer space.
But
scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation dismiss his
findings.
On
their way back home, both Sanjay and his pregnant wife Sonia (Rekha)
see a spaceship.
Excited
of witnessing the impossible, Sanjay loses control of the car and
they meet with an accident.
Sonia
turns out to be the only survivor of the crash. She gives birth
to a mentally challenged boy, Rohit (Hrithik Roshan).
As
time goes by, Rohit grows into a youngster but his mind is that
of a child.
Constantly
bullied by neighbouring kids, he yearns to be normal. Into
his life enters Nisha (Preity Zinta) who becomes his 'girlfriend'.
One
day, both Rohit and Nisha stumble across the old computer in the
nearby barn.
Inquisitive
to learn more, they find out about the signal and send it into space.
That
night, a spaceship visits their town.
It
is at this point that we learn that aliens from another planet have
visited earth.
But
most surprising of all is the fact that one of the extraterrestrial
has accidentally been left behind.
Both
Rohit and Nisha eventually find the alien which they hide in the
old barn. They call it Jadoo (meaning magic).
During
the night, Jadoo makes Rohit’s wishes come true.
His
physique changes drastically as he begins to grow muscles, his sight
improves and most of all he has the strength to tackle the neighbourhood
bullies.
All
is well until the local police officer finds out about Jadoo. So
the hunt begins for the alien.
In
a desperate attempt to save his space friend, Rohit signals
the spaceship one more time to take Jadoo back.
But
in return for his good gesture, he will have to lose all his powers
acquired from the alien. Can he make this sacrifice?
Koi...
Mil Gaya is reminiscent of the Steven Spielberg television series,
Taken and the feature film, E.T.
Despite
this fact, the film will appeal to audiences of all ages due to
a storyline never seen before on the Bollywood silver screen.
On
the technical front, Ravi Chandran and Sameer Arya manage to capture
the cinematography of Nainital and Canada beautifully.
Musical
score by Rajesh Roshan is catchy with the song Idhar chala mein
being the best of the lot.
Koi...
Mil Gaya sees some wonderful performances but full credit goes
to Hrithik Roshan.
He
plays the character of the mentally retarded child transformed into
a superman hero with great conviction.
Scenes
involving Rohit and his young friends is a sheer delight
to watch. It will keep you glued to your seat.
On
the whole, this sci-fi film turns out to be a great entertainer.
This
summer, if Hollywood can pack the auditoriums with Hulk so
can Bollywood with Koi Mil Gaya. Not to be missed!
