Sooraj
(Sunny Deol) has been rejected by his mother, Savitri (Kiron Kher)
from birth.
Homeless
and alone, he is adopted by a kind hearted childless widower.
As
years go by, Sooraj grows into a young man but the experience of
rejection by the person who should have loved him most still continues
to fester.
Yearning
only for the truth and the love of his mother, Sooraj seeks refuge
in alcohol.
Into
his life comes Sapna (Shilpa Shetty), a beautiful laydee
who he takes a shine to.
Sapna's
appearance has one immediate effect, in that it makes our hero sober
up.
Unfortunately
there's a cloud on the horizon in the form of Raja (Sunil Shetty),
with whom Sooraj shares a special brotherly bond.
Raja
ran away from home after being forced into a marriage he didn't
want. Sapna, on the other hand, is a woman he does want.
The
bond between the two men turns into rivalry, especially when Sooraj
learns that the ideal girl Raja intends to marry is Sapna.
And
to make matters worse, in the punch-up that follows, both men find
out they are brothers.
Raja
takes him home and Sooraj finally meets his mother for the first
time - only for her to reject him again.
What
secret is she hiding from Sooraj? Watch Karz- The Burden Of Truth
to find out.
The
film is loaded with glamour personified with excellent direction
of the action scenes involving Sunny Deol.
He is up to his usual best.
Kiron
Kher's role as Savitri in this film looks like as if she has a hangover
from her previous role in the magnum opus, Devdas.
She
needs to expand her acting range into other characters.
As
for Shilpa Shetty, she has given a subdued performance and this
comes as a refreshing change, compared with her earlier roles last
year, such as
Rishtey and her ealier release, Badhai Ho Badhai.
In
both these films her character was loud and vibrant on screen.
Sunil
Shetty has matured as an actor over the years and this is evident
in this film.
On
the down side, Karz is full of Bollywood clichés which we have seen
all before but - rest assured - it does consist of some touching
moments shared between Kiron Kher and Sunny Deol.
For
example, the flashback sequences in the film are portrayed in an
interesting and novel way.
Overall
Karz is an action-packed movie and well worth a look.
