Kayaking for Cancer banner
Round Ireland with a Kayak
On the back of a wave
Evening, Tuesday 13th July
Simon's team and the crew of Veinard

The weather has seen a change for the better for Simon. Hopefully summer's on it's way.

Patrick and the crew of Veinard have been great. As well as a bed, they've offered Simon a valuable insight into the next stretches of the Irish Coastline.

The wind was incredibly calm this morning. Throughout the day the wind picked up creating a steep following sea. I made a 4 hour crossing to Loop Head across the Shannon. I was expecting Loop Head to be bigger than it was in terms of the sea conditions.

However, I had a three hour surf to Kilkee and reached 11.8 knots. This is the second day I had a tail wind. Hopefully there will be more to come. Tomorrow I am heading around the tallest cliffs in Europe and crossing to the Aran Isles so it should be a big day.

The photo you can see above is of our crew and the crew of Veinard. Patrick was going to sail alongside me for a few days but unfortunately was unable to get his yacht to sea.

He has let us stay on Veinard tonight and has talked me through the next sections of coastline.

From Simon

While Simon's been bowled over by the donations he's received along the way, he's also been grateful for all the support and sponsorship he's had in kind. Dr Patrick Hartigan, of The Veinard and 'Nowcasting International' has a day job providing weather forecasts, particularly for shipping, including amongst others the Irish Navy. Patrick's been supplying Simon with some essential data for the rest of his journey.
