A new low pressure region is due to come in by Friday afternoon, bringing winds from the south, so the plan is to get onto the water at 4.00am and see how far he gets.

The Irish media have been really enthusiastic. A national breakfast TV slot, radio and press have all helped to raise awareness of what Simon's doing and should help fundraising.

However, he's already famous - a couple of fishermen recognised Simon from TV! - At this rate he'll be hiring a makeup artist before he takes to the water every morning!

Meanwhile, the support yacht has also parted company. In fact the weather has been so bad that Huw Roberts, the skipper was forced to leave 'Ocean Venturer' in Dublin and take the ferry back.
