Darwin's Origin Beer

Darwin's Origin beer

Have a drink on Darwin

A new bottled beer has been launched in Shrewsbury to mark a very special occasion. It has been developed by the Shrewsbury-based Salopian Brewery to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of naturalist Charles Darwin.

The Salopian Brewery has created Darwin's Origin to mark the bi-centenary of Charles Darwin's birth. Jake Douglas from the brewery, said the anniversary was a good excuse to invent a new beer.

The idea came from the brewery's officer manager, Debbie Turner and  it is the first bottled beer Salopian has produced for some time.

Jake said a cask version of Darwin's Origin proved very popular when it was tried out last year. Because the Salopian does not have the equipment the ale was sent away to be bottled.

Jake said the beer was going on sale at the Old Dairy on Mytton Oak Road, off licenses around the county and at the brewery's own pub: "The Bull and the Barne is only about 200 yards away from the Mount where Darwin was born."

The brew was developed by brewery partner, Wilf Nelson. He described it as " a copper coloured ale that evolves with a pronounced hop character which is balanced by a refined hop finish."
