Digging in at Adcote

By Hayley, year 7
Gardener Chris Beardshaw is working with pupils at Adcote School to create a Victorian garden for the Malvern Show. Follow their progress on BBC Radio Shropshire's gardening programme and online.

Pupils at Adcote School are currently involved with a project to create a show garden with Chris Beardshaw. We are all working very hard and spending all our spare time growing plants out in our polytunnels. The Malvern Show is a very big show compared to the Shrewsbury Flower Show which we took part in last year.

The garden is based on a Victorian theme which is very fitting as this year we are celebrating our school's centenary. The show garden will be a squatter's garden complete with hovel, pig sty, pigs and sheep! There will be lots of vegetables needed and we are growing these ourselves. Each member of the school gardening team has been given about 10 packets of seeds.

The garden won't be immaculate and will include weeds as this will be more realistic. Thankfully the seeds are growing well due to the polytunnels that we bought with a grant given to us by Shrewsbury Horticultural Society.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way and we hope to see you at the show.

Hayley
