Be inspired by divine art

We want to know what works of art inspire you spiritually - what lifts your emotions when you see it? We want to build a national library of divine art pictures taken by you.

What is Divine Art?

Divine Art is a project appearing across the BBC - on local websites, BBC local radio, the Heaven and Earth show and programming on Radio 4 and Radio 2's Sunday programme.

We want to know what works of art inspire you spiritually - what lifts your emotions when you see it? We want to build a national library of your divine art.

How can I get involved?

If you or someone you know has been inspired to create a piece of art - take a photo and send it to us - maybe you've done a painting or created a tapestry. Where the work of art is not yours, please obtain consent from the creator of the work before sending in your photo to us.

We also want pictures of works of art which move you - this might be a statue, a stained glass window or an object found in a place of worship.

The art doesn't necessarily have to be religious it could be a secular piece - for example the Angel of the North or a Henry Moore sculpture. Please don't take photos of other people's well known artworks if you don't have their consent - as we won't be able to accept these.

Include in your email:
• your name;
• a short description of why the subject of your picture inspires you (no more than 100 words);
• the location of the art work
• whether this is your own original art work or you have the creator’s consent.

By sending a picture in you agree to the BBC's Terms and Conditions.

What will my pictures be used for?

If your picture is chosen it will be added to an image gallery on this site and also be part of a UK wide library of inspirational images.

A few pictures from each region will be featured on the BBC's main Religion and Ethics site (bbc.co.uk/religion) and they may also be featured on your local radio faith programmes or on the Heaven and Earth show.

Examples

21-year-old Jagmeet Singh Khalsa has recently graduated with a degree in animation, yet his dramatic sketches are not only created for academic purposes. These animations are primarily a representation of this Sikh faith, his beliefs and his culture.  Jagmeet believes his art is not only inspirational to himself but also to his peers in the Sikh community in Hadley, Telford

Aidan Hart, from Pontesbury, has been a professional iconographer for more than 20 years. His work is found in over 20 countries, providing spiritual inspiration to many.  For him, "art is a way of serving God and serving people" - both a reflection of his Orthodox faith and a means with which to praise.

Having worshiped at St Mary's church in Shrewsbury for 15 years, George Baugh finds particular inspiration in the church's imposing East window. It is the window's "beauty and its message", that inspires George's faith and allows him to reflect on thousands of years of Christianity.
