Wish of the Day win School of Rock

Wrekin College band Wish of the Day have become the second Shropshire band in as many years to win BBC Midlands Today's School of Rock competition.

Wrekin College band Wish of the Day have won BBC Midlands Today's School of Rock competition. Their win means that they follow in the footsteps of 2005 winners, Ripchord, also from Shropshire.

As well as having their music played to hundreds of thousands of viewers on BBC Midlands Today, there are also some big prizes. Wish of the Day now have the opportunity to shoot a video, cut a demo CD and perhaps most exciting, play live at the National Rock and Pop Festival in July.

Ripchord, from Newport, not only had great fun shooting their video, but they've enjoyed great success since being crowned 2005's champions. Ripchord have recently been signed and look forward to spending some time in the recording studio.

Wish of the Day's winning single Mistake Me is not only well produced on cd, but also manages to combine a powerful and raw sound with tight musicianship. The band, only formed in May 2005, are also enjoying their live performances and hope to gain more gig experience. The lads name the likes of Radiohead, Razorlight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Joy Division as their main influences.

Mistake Me might have won the School of Rock competition, but Wish of the Day have an impressive collection of other self-penned songs... and they're certainly a name to look out for in the future.
