A week after winning the Shropshire Charity Cup, Madeley Colts under 15s returned to the New Bucks Head hoping to achieve a cup double by winning the Telford Manangement Cup. The game kicked off on a heavily waterlogged pitch with both teams struggling to play attractive football. Madeley made the break through on 20 minutes when striker Rodney D wriggled through the centre of Albrighton's defence before placing the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Albrighton struck back almost immediately. Winning a free kick some thirty yards from goal, they launched a high ball into the box, which resulted in an Albrighton player beating the Madeley keeper to the ball and planting a header into the top corner. With the pitch cutting up very badly, both teams were finding the conditions impossible, with the ball stopping in the puddles that had developed on the surface. Half time: Madeley Colts 1 Albrighton 1 With both teams cancelling each other out, the second half sprung into life on 68 minutes. Madeley forward Andy R picked up a hopeful long ball some forty yards out, near the left-hand touch line. With blisttering pace, he cut inside, beating two defenders, he bent an unstoppable shot into the top corner of Albrighton's goal. With the momentum firmly with Madeley they pushed forward and six minutes later Rodney D added a third, smashing high into the net from just inside the box. On 79 minutes Omar C tapped in the fourth from close range. Final score: Madeley Colts 4 Albrighton 1 Congratulations to both teams for a hard played final, with special praise for Madeley for completing the double. |
