Work begins on new stadium

The decision to build a new stadium for Shrewsbury Town on Otley Road is a controversial one. However the club is pleased that work has finally started, as BBC Shropshire TV discovered.

Work has started on the new 10,000 all-seater stadium for Shrewsbury Town Football Club. The club's mascot Lenny the Lion appears to be very enthusiastic about the new ground.

The developers are planning to finish the new stadium on Oteley Road in time for Shrewsbury Town FC to move in before the 2007-08 season.

Although the move is a controversial one for locals, the club's board and manager are pleased that work has finally started. Manager, Gary Peters is looking forward to moving in: "It's up and running now and it helps me as a lot of the new players I brought in last season were sold on the fact the new stadium would be built."
