Olympic Screenings in Super Hi-Vision
As part of its coverage of London 2012, the BBC is working with NHK and Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) to capture and show the London 2012 Olympic Games in Super Hi-Vision, a format and technology developed by NHK.
Super Hi-Vision is the next generation of television providing a picture quality 16 times the size of HDTV - this is matched by a new surround sound format providing a 22.2 channel surround sound experience.
Super Hi-Vision is designed to be experienced as a wide camera angle shot giving the audience the experience of being at an event.
Special showcase screenings will include highlights of the Olympic Games as well as content showing what London feels like as it becomes an Olympic city.
To enable audiences to experience this amazing technology, the BBC is working with partners to create three special Super Hi-Vision cinemas across the UK.
