BBC WORLD SERVICE

BBC World Service is a leading international broadcaster with 140 million listeners world wide. A network of 250 correspondents and 50 news bureaux around the world supplies information for journalists in the Central Newsroom and 44 language services.
A further source of information is the BBC Monitoring Service in Caversham. It supplies news and information obtained from radio, television and news agencies in 140 countries and 70 languages.
World Service broadcasts are funded through the Foreign & Commonwealth Office by a Parliamentary Grant-in-Aid. As an integral part of the public service BBC, the World Service operates under the same Royal Charter, giving it full editorial and managerial independence from the Government.
