Holiday Scotland is a weblog providing "a wee bit of what you might find when you come to Scotland. Comments on tourist attractions, culture, events and any other random tartan tat."

Comments:

Hi I wonder where the wisdom in Scothish Tourist Boards wisdom in spending lots of money in attracting visitors to Scotland when local councils here in the Borders CLOSE all Public toilets at 5pm! is this the same all over Scotland? At this time of year there are lots of tourists on the road at night ( I work in a filling station) and number one comment " why are the public toilets closed" what a welcome to Scotland! I am proud of my homeland and do what I can to promote it but cant get any where trying to get public toilets open at night time for tourists, can anyone help?

I agree. Perth & Kinross Council are busy trying to close down public toilets altogether across the county, asking local businesses to allow the public to use their loos. It is a huge step backwards and entirely uncivilised.

My heritage is Irish, Scot, Cherokee, Danish, German.

I wish I knew more of my family roots. Thank you for being such beautiful people. It is a pleasure to "visit" your paper.

How true! When back on holiday in my native Scotland, I met a Catalan couple who regretted that Scotland as a whole seemed to shut at 5 or half past. Try seeing a monument, getting a shop open on Princes Street Edinburgh, and yes getting to use an open loo in Dunoon at the mentioned hour. This is a general thing, not restricted to relief stations and incomprehensible to most visitors to our beautiful country, in other words those tourists we wish to attract.

My Mothers Family name is
Lucier, which I thought was
French. I was recently at a
wake in a scottish club only to see our name on a tarten up on the wall. What a surprise because scottish music, traditions, and the highland games have always been an enjoyment of mine.
Also my biologicle fathers surname is Glassco, I find that interesting as well.

Mabye someone could enlighten me.
