The Joy of Email

Remember when Scots indie band Belle and Sebastian were voted best newcomers in the 2001 Brit Awards?

Detestable music mogul Pete Waterman said the email voting was rigged. Not because his teen band Steps lost, but because a large share of the votes could be traced back to email addresses at Strathclyde and Cambridge universities!

The Scotsman relates the latest email scam, which is one us Scots can probably relate to. Probably.

Instead of voting for England rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson for the title of BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2003, nasty saboteurs from Down Under are trying to get revenge for losing the Rugby World Cup Final.

The plan is to launch an “anti-Jonny” e-mail drive, urging Aussies to vote for Tim Henman instead!

I mean, Tim Henman. Nearly, but not quite Oz.
