Biography

Ruth is the elder of the Rossi sisters. She has always had to compete with her sister, Joanne, for their mother, Gina's, attention. This often causes problems between the two sisters, but when push comes to shove, Ruth and Jo are always there for each other.

As far as her love life is concerned, Ruth was more than understanding about her ex, Cormac, taking up with her sister, Jo. When Jo was in prison, Ruth put her feelings about the two of them aside, but then became irritated by what she saw as her sister's spoiled behaviour. Ruth's love life was disastrous - Lewis Cope knocked her back, and then Stevie Adams decided to teach her a lesson. She had a massive fall-out with Scott because she slept with Stevie, and just when they began to make friends, Ruth started to focus her attention on Jo's son, Franco. She applied for permanent custody of Franco which threatened to split the Rossi family for good.

After a serious of violent attacks on (then boyfriend) Harry, Scott and Gina, she was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, controllable by medication.

Ruth left for Italy to sort herself out, and promptly went missing, only to arrive back in Shieldinch claiming to have got married. Her family and friends thought that this was another of Ruth's spells of mental illness, and it was weeks before the mysterious Marty appeared in Shieldinch, proving that Ruth hadn't made the whole thing up. The couple then shared a wedding blessing in Shieldinch, and settled into a happy life.

Marty has been very supportive of Ruth's illness. Ruth recently found out that Marty's ex-girlfriend Becky had an abortion, shortly before meeting Ruth. Ruth initially felt that Marty was with her on the rebound, and this put huge pressure on their relationship. Further pressure was added by the knowledge that Marty desperately wanted a family of his own, and Ruth decided to come off her medication in the hope that she would fall pregnant. She became even more jealous of Jo when she became pregnant again and Ruth spoke very publicly about her disbelief that Billy was the father of Jo's baby. Despite this, she was there for Jo when the truth came out about Luca being the baby's real father, and tried to persuade Gina not to turn her back on Jo.

She finally fell pregnant but lost the baby when she found out Marty was having an affair with Iona. It set her off the rails a little but she's made up with Marty now and she's admitted she needs her medication.

She has no idea that her husband is sleeping with prostitutes...
