Biography

Raymond is the jovial landlord of the Tall Ship pub. He used to be married to Eileen, with whom he had two children, Brian and Kirsty. Brian doesn't live in Shieldinch - he's receiving medical treatment for mental illness, and Kirsty was tragically killed in a car crash in 2006.

Raymond was something of a wheeler and dealer, before buying into the pub and calming his ways.

Raymond fell for his second wife, Roisin when she worked as receptionist in Lazy Ray's (a business he used to run). They made plans to marry but when Roisin fell pregnant Raymond was shocked and a little too vocal with his doubts about being a dad again... When he finally offered his support, it was too late: Roisin had already aborted the baby. It was a harrowing time for the couple, but Raymond made amends by finding Roisin's long-lost daughter, Alanna. Raymond and Roisin then tied the knot.

He's proved to be a great step-dad to Alanna, keeping her secret about the abuse her adoptive father, Alex, subjected her to. However, when Roisin finally found out the truth, it spelled disaster for the family, and for their marriage: Roisin was seriously injured in the explosion that killed Alex but once she recovered she couldn't forgive Raymond for keeping her in the dark about her daughter. Roisin's resentment towards Raymond led to their divorce.

Raymond has since fallen for Roisin's sister, Shona. When Raymond was grieving for Kirsty, he had a one night stand with ex-wife Eileen, which threatened his new relationship, but after some serious soul-searching, he decided that Shona really is the one for him. Shona was reluctant to get involved cos she didn't want to upset Roisin but she and Raymond were determined to make a go of it. Roisin went mad when she found out and nearly forced Shona to leave town but she later realised that love knows no bounds, and made up with her sister.

Shona was a great support to Raymond, who was devastated when his dad George died of a brain tumour. Raymond, in turn, supported George's widow, Shirley, and mistakenly welcomed George's brother, Robert, into the family.

Raymond happily accepted Shona's proposal of marriage but at their wedding party, he was gutted to discover that Shona was in fact still married to her first husband Tony... and three more besides. They immediately split up and Shona was arrested for bigamy. She's since been found not guilty but however much Raymond loves her they're still apart.
