Liz McColgan Scottish Sports Personality of the Year

This year marks the 50th BBC Sports Personality of the Year programme. On 14 December 2003 many of the greatest names in sport will be assembled for the glittering event.

For the first time, winners of BBC Sports Personality of the Year from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the English regions will be in London for the main event. Here are 14 sportsmen and women who have made their mark this year. If there is anyone else you think we should consider, please email sportscotland@bbc.co.uk.

Robert Archibald Robert Archibald - Basketball
The Paisley-born star has recently switched to playing for the Phoenix Suns after becoming Scotland's first export to the NBA playing for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He continued his solid build-up to the new campaign by grabbing 5 points and 4 rebounds in his side's 104-86 friendly victory over the LA Lakers in October.
Alex Arthur Alex Arthur - Boxing
Despite a recent defeat, Alex Arthur is one of Britain's hottest boxing talents, with 16 wins from 17 fights - 14 coming via knock out. He is currently IBF International Super Featherweight Champion, WBO Intercontinental Super Featherweight Champion and the WBA International Super Featherweight Champion.
