Alien Workshop Decks
Alien Workshop make a whole range of decks with around eight different
models out per rider, so there's a whole load of variation. You
can also be pretty sure that one of those shapes is the size that
the rider actually uses, unlike some companies who put out 7.25"
pro decks when the rider actually rides a deck closer to 8"!!!
So, no matter what size your are, or what size board you like, there's
a good range to choose from.
The main reason I like these boards is that they're strong and they
have a good concave on them. Some of them, like certain Jason Dill
boards, also have a slight camber to them. I mainly ride transitions,
so I like a board that's at least 7.5", but in particular,
I like a rounded nose and tail, so that there's more area for my
feet to make contact with the board. It gives you more control and
more board to land on too!
I'm currently riding the Danny Way Ivory Series Microlite (see image
above). I think it's a six-ply deck, which I was a little wary of
at first (being a fairly big guy), but it's no less stiff or strong,
and has lasted well so far.
I like the way that most of the Alien Workshop boards tend be painted
all over, including the rails - it's no big deal but I just like
the way they look! While I'm on the subject of graphics, there's
always a really interesting range available, which may have you
wanting to hang them on your wall instead skating them, especially
if your name is Andy Dobson!!
