Intro:
My name’s Bernard Leyden

Is it true that you wear women’s clothes?
Only on Wednesday nights, after nine [winks and laughs].

How old are you?
23

How long have you been skating?
I’ve been skating for 12 years.

How did you get into skating?
One of my friends in my street bought a board and, I don’t know - I just got hooked. I just loved it, right from the first day.

Do people comment on the similarity between your name and that of Osama Bin Laden?
Aye they have, aye. But they’ve got to realise that my name isnae Ben - it’s Bernard. I just get called Ben for short.

Are there any films/books/records that you'd like to recommend?
Oh, this is a hard question man! I dunno because there’s that many good albums and that many good films. Well, Taxi Driver - that’s an amazing film and you’ve got to watch that. Just a lot of De Niro films, there you go. That’s all you need to watch.

Tea or Irn Bru?
Tea

Buckfast or lager?
Ohh - hard question! Lager.

How do you overcome your fear?
I think that with years of practising, you just get used to it. It’s like walking - as you grow up and walk more, you eventually don’t think about it too much. Your confidence builds with time, depending on how much time you spend on your board.
