The weather for Wednesday was 'Nice in the
morning, rain in the afternoon'. I needed to ride and couldn't wait
for a dry day, so on Tuesday night I set my alarm a little earlier...
..I woke up at 5am and looked out of the window.
The sky was dull and grey and I thought, 'sod this', closed my eyes
and tried to go back to sleep.
As fate would have it, though, I couldn't nod off, and I kept thinking
that if I didn't do this, then I'd regret it.
I resolved to have a look out of the front window at the weather
and if it looked good, then I'd go.
The sky was blue and I was out the door. Unfortunately, though,
I'd left my wallet at work, so I had to go to the station via the
office to get my cards and then ride like an idiot to Queen Street.
I got to the station at 5.45am, ten minutes before the train left,
hopped on and grinned like an idiot, whilst everyone else was looking
miserable at having to be up so early. The only crimp on the trip
was that the ticket guy decided to do his job properly and wouldn't
let me use my railcard - ah, well.
The weather in Stirling was great and I stopped off at a garage
en route to get some breakfast (cheese and ham sandwiches and a
chocolate bar) for later.
Dumyat (pronounced dum-AYE-ett) is the biggish,
craggy hill that you can see from the train if you go through Stirling.
It's quite famous for one reason or another but more importantly,
it's a great little hill for riding an mtb on. You can get half
the way up by using one of two roads (the one from the Logie Kirk
is the easiest) and they're both pretty harsh. There must have been
something in the air, though, because for the first time I didn't
have to stop to catch a breather.
