..or 'Ben Morgan goes to Ae
Forest'
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine came up for the weekend,
so we could go biking. This is the story of what happened when
me, him and his flatmate Bicker went to Ae Forest.
[Warning - this article contains photos that some people may find

We arrived at Ae at about 2pm. Everyone else had been there since
early morning, but since Ben and Bicker had only arrived at 3am,
I'd let them have a lie in.
Ben had brought his Marin (full-sus cross country bike with 6in
of rear wheel travel) and Bicker had borrowed a rigid Kona. We
soon decided that the Kona would be staying in the car.
The afternoon was great and Phil and the guys were generous enough
to lend us bits of body armour/bikes, so that everyone could get
a shot. Ben got a flat on his way down one time, but other than
that, everything was going well...
..until...
..we managed to get one last lift to the top at the end of the
day. Wee Ross had lent Bicker his trusty Giant and I was on my
Bullitt. Ben was on his Marin, and was rather worryingly only
wearing a ridiculously tiny, open-face helmet.
The descent was really fun. Me and Ben swapped places up front
whilst Bicker (who doesn't MTB) was getting much more confident
with the Giant.
Then we reached the end of the first section.
For those of you who've never been to Ae, the first bit ends with
a 5ft drop-off onto a rocky downslope which was as dry and dusty
as a (insert rude, clichéd metaphor here). Looking at it,
I don't think it'd be hard on a proper DH bike, but Ben decided
that he was going to go over it with:
- a cross country bike
- cross country tyres
- no body armour
- no full-face helmet
