Dave Sowerby just sent in the latest news
on the Edinburgh Skatepark saga. Please read it and click on the
link to help register your support and then, maybe one day, we'll
all have an ace park to ride.
'At the moment the designs for the Edinburgh skatepark
are more or less complete but the big hurdle we are trying to get
over is getting planning permission to build it in Inverleith Park.
We originally made a joint planning application for two sites within
the park. When the application for the first site went in it received
about 650 objections! The second planning application is currently
in progress and is inviting letters of objection or support. It
is likely the second application will also receive as many objections.
However, we recently found out that people can also show their support
for the park and that the planning committee that considers the
application will take this into account.
SO, this is where we need everyone's help to try and make sure we
get this long overdue skatepark. We have posted a page on the ESP
website with an automated form that, when filled in with your
name and details, will then send an email that goes out to all the
members of the planning committee saying you support the plans to
build the skatepark. If you are an Edinburgh resident there are
also similar printed forms in the Focus
skate shop and OBM
BMX shop that can be filled in and will be sent to the planning
committee before the 28th Oct deadline.
So CLICK
HERE, fill in the form and help get this park built. It won't
take a minute of your time and your help will be very much appreciated,
plus you will have helped get one of the largest outdoor parks in
the country built!
There is also a public meeting in Edinburgh about the park and it's
open to everyone (details at the bottom of this article). We want
as many skaters and BMXers as possible to come along to demonstrate
the interest in the park.'
Cheers, Dave.
So there you have it - if you want a park, make sure you show your
support, otherwise you've got nothing to complain about. Apathy
sucks, so make your voice heard and lets all help each other out.
It's time to mobilise!
Details of council meeting:
Date: Wednesday 17 November
Location: Edinburgh Academy on Henderson Row, Stockbridge.
Time: Doors open at 7.00pm for 7.30pm start
