Aberdeen Ghetto Park Jam:
Since Stoneywood Skatepark's closure
a few years back, Aberdeen has been badly missing an indoor park
to ride hassle-free.
There was a glimmer of hope last summer when a group of Christians,
including Daniel Randall of WeThePeople, flew over from the U.S
and helped build the Jesus Revolution park along with a handful
of locals. However, when the plans for a canvas roof to cover
our playground fell through, mainly due to the council's uncertainty
over its permanence, we were in trouble. Right slap bang on the
North East coastline, it was obvious the park was never going
to withstand the winter months.
So, as the rain and snow came down, so too did the condition of
the park, until eventually it was deemed unsafe to ride. Back
to square one. Or at least to the streets. Until recently that
is...
..a few months back, whilst exploring an unused, industrial compound,
locals gained access to an abandoned warehouse, and a small group
began work on The Ghetto. Word spread, and before long a decent
set up had been achieved. Respect definitely has to be given to
the guys responsible for most of the building. They've put in
a fair bit of work - which all the riders in the area are benefiting
from.
Now, with plenty riders coming out of the woodwork to ride The
Ghetto, and some new kids just getting into it, the scene up here
is better than ever.
Ok enough of that - onto the jam...
