What and where
is Skara Brae?

A birds eye view of a Skara Brae house

Inside, all the houses were built to the same design. Each was a large square room with a fireplace in the centre, a bed on either side of the door and a large dresser opposite the doorway. All the houses could be locked, although only from the inside, so once the people were inside they could shut out the world.
