Diffusion is a process during which molecules or ions move from a region of concentration to a region of concentration. The particles move a concentration gradient. Osmosis is similar, but a permeable membrane separates two areas of different concentration. The membrane found just inside a plant cell wall is like this. The cell wall itself is permeable.
