Silver Anniversary Book

The hardest day in my life was when my parents moved our family from Shetland to Midland, South Dakota. The second hardest day of my life was when I had to say goodbye to my Mam, Dad and 3 brothers; when I left America to move home (finally!) to Shetland.

My parents are celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary on the 14th of November. In all my life I have never heard them argue. I'm sure they have had different opinions over the years, but I have never seen them cross with each other. Reflecting on that, I feel enormously lucky to have been raised in such an atmosphere. I could not have hoped for a better upbringing, despite the transatlantic move that scarred my childhood.

I designed a book (not a photo album) with images chiefly from my most recent visit to their beautiful farm in southern Minnesota. This is my gift to them, on their Silver Anniversary. I thought I would share it here on this blog.

Lovely pix SFH, but you don't have to include cat pictures, it's not a law on IB that all pix submitted must include at least one of a pussy. Loved the dog pix though and you're quite a looker, even when you haven't scrubbed up. Oh I've just remembered something, nice blog..

Good! I hope your brothers, parents and grandma are able to visit you in Shetland.

Nice poem; lovely pictures...particularly the cat&grandma.

Flying Cat from The Sunroom of Eternity

Yeah, I hope my family in America can visit me and all of the family here within the next two years. My Grandmother in those photos is actually from Shetland (that's her house in the last picture). She used to visit us in Shetland with my Grandad when I was young. After he died of cancer in 1996, she could no longer fly over to see us. She's scared of flying. Last June/July I took her over there with me to visit my parents farm. She had not been in America in 10 years.

Good to see your Grandmother looking well. Not seen her for a few years. Her and your Grandad Donnie are/were fine folk. Best regards to her.

Hope you have a cozy Thanksgiving Day, Shetland FH. # We are not traveling this year, but we won't celebrate Thanksgiving alone. We are going to the Indian restaurant, which has a Thanksgiving special (Indian style) menu. Beats eating left over turkey until Christmas. All the best, Shetland FH.

You are not the only ones who have moved from Shetland, for my family who are Shetland through and through, married Cumbria and Shetland together over40 odd years ago. So you are 40 years too late

Fiona Biggin from cumbria

40 years too late for what?

Flying Cat from puzzled&confused

Biggin has me gasping or grasping if not quite rasping for understanding too, FC. # Cumbria? Maybe that's the explanation [just kidding, just kidding! No need to start bagpiping for my demise. I love all things Scot, well ... almost!].

mjc from NM,USA

trooker from wastside

40 years too late... the race to be born?

Donna from Finally Home in Shetland

Am I reading right? The scum of the earth, drug dealing fraternity has actually reached The Shetlands? If so I fear for humanity. Only scoured the site, I pray I'm reading wrongly, Found thissite by mistake but what a lovely site it is.
