Eclipse

This morning, a partial solar eclipse was visible throughout Europe, the UK and the Western Isles. At Stornoway, only 15% of the sun was obscured. Nonetheless, it was still an impressive spectacle. The image below shows the sun at 11.44. It's coloured green, as I had to place a slide of welding glass in front of the camera lens.

This is a lovely shot. Welder's mask - that's a pretty good idea.

That's not an eclipse - it's a black cat with a mint!

I had no idea you would even see it from here. Dash it all! At least I got to see it on here. Thanks, Arnish! I DOES look just a little like a partially sucked strepsil though. Blame the welding mask!

This is cool - we didn't get to see aby of the eclipse. Good shot!

Corr blimey, this brings back memories. During the full solar eclipse in 1999 I was actually taking my spoken midwifery exams in Glasgow, yip, the good old orals. Anyhoo, the group broke for a break just in time to go outside the university and witness this profound event. As it happened, there were some guys welding the university gates, so they let us use their welding helmets to watch the spectical. Wow, what an experience, didnt help my nerves much mind, as I was up next. Happy days.
