are friends electric

italian cycle component manufacturer, campagnolo, has had electronic gearchanging in development for a number of years now without putting it on the market.

however, photographs have popped up of an electronic shimano groupset at the paris-nice race, so we presumably now have a race (if you'll pardon the pun) to see who puts a whole set on sale first.

there are those of us, however, who want to know why you'd want to in the first place.

Electric sweaters now electric bikes on Arran - what's going on there? Why are we so far behind in Harris? Sunny if I get the wool will you knit me one of those campagnolos?

I remember Mavic introducing one once (10 years ago ?). Seems a little 'un-green' to rely on batteries to ride a bike !

the mavic 'zap' system apparently didn't work very well when it rained. not a lot of use around here then:-) campag system seems to work well but they're still trying to make it look less ugly. i'll stick to stainless gear wires for a while yet, i think.

I love my bike(s) and love th eidea of simplicity - although I have moved form fixed to nine speed recently. But that is another story. The simplicity of mechanics and the machine itself is what makes me cycle - oh yes and to make space for the cake stop!
