First snowdrops

Hello everyone :-)

Well, hasen't it been a wet and windy start to 2005! I must admit that all this dark, grey and dreary weather dosen't help the old January blues.
At least we had a bit of snow to break up the monotiny of the rain this week. The lack of bright weather has meant that my camera has been firmly packed away for most of the month so far :-(. I did manage to get out for a few hours on Tuesday though and found the first Snowdrops in flower at Torosay Castle.....what a welcome sight! Spring is on it's way :-)

" The leaves which in the autumn of the year
fall auburn tinted, leaving reft and bare Their parent trees , in many a shelterd lair
Where winter waits and watches, cold , austere,
Will lie in drifts ; and when the snowdrops cheer
The woodland shadows, still the leaves are there,
Through the glades the balmy southern air
And buds and boughs proclaim that spring is here. "

Fantastic Auroras last night!!

Friday evening 21st January

I hope that you all got to see the amazing Auroras that sparkled in the clear star filled sky last night.
We saw them twice here on Mull (craignure)....once on the way to the pub and again on the way back :-P
These were the best that have ever seen....but then I have only seen them three times, and only twice in clour. I managed to grab my new Fuji camera and give myself a crash course on night time photography....or rather frantically randomly selecting different manual modes to see what came out!
I am really pleased with the results, especially when you take into consideration my excitment and having never taken a photo at night before :-)

The colourfull displays of cour and the streaking flickering light effects just took our breath away.....it was completly awsome and magical. Definatly one of those moments that I shall remember for the rest of my life.
