Scalpay news

For readers of the Oban Times, the Scalpay correspondent is a joy. Here is this weeks news report:

Cold Weather
As well as fish in the sea being affected by a recent spell of cold weather on the island, so are insects.
There are no flies inside the house.
So it seems it can be accepted that the warmth of the sun accounts for much to produce life.

I think the Oban Times should send the Scalpay correspondent to cover the G8 conference. He would be sure to write something surprising.

Anne from Mull

We get the Oban Times delivered and we always turn to Scalpay first! I heard that he always sends in scraps of reports, some in gaelic some in english and the editor for the round-ups just has to make what they can! 'There is pollock to be had.' is a favourite comment of mine!

Jo from Edinburgh

Donald Morrison is a west coast icon, long may his daises flourish and visitors flock to the island. I think he should be included in the next 'Little Britain' series !

Johnny from Glasgow

Young Donald from Scalpay is a Legend. Hes a local celebrity, talk of the town on a thursday!

Chris Hutchens and Liam Orr from Benderloch

Chris and Liam, thanks for the comment. I have just returned from the Mod in Stornaway and managed a visit Scalpay. Last time I was up there for the Mod the bridge wasn't open so it was interesting to take a look at Donald Morrison's island. Sadly it rather late in the day and almost dark so the photos aren't worth showing. I may get around to putting some up of Lewis and the Mod.

This week, date the 31st proved to be one of the best scalpay news to date. How does he come up with it, it is pure genious on a new level.

Andrew Phillips from Oban

No relation to the great man but I'm delighted to read that he has so many fans like minded to me and my hubby. He's the first thing I turn to when I get my copy of the OT. One day we plan to visit and do something weird like place a bunch of flowers on top of everyone's dustbin just to see if he reports it!
