James V dies, Mary becomes Queen – 1542

On hearing of the defeat at Solway Moss, James fled to Falkland Palace. Already ill with fever, James' health deteriorated. On the 14th December he died. His infant daughter, Mary, became Queen of Scots. Video: A history of Scotland: Project Britain.
