Seeking information on this strike especially in the Falkirk - Bonnybridge area. Cheers, George.

I can remember my first day as an apprentice fitter - out on strike. I can remember my first day as a tradesman - out on strike. That was about 1963-64.

Stuart Christie's 'Granny Made Me an Anarchist', just out in paperback, mentions a strike of apprentices in Glasgow around this time - he says Billy Connolly helped to organise it.

I would be interested in hearing any memories and seeing any documents or photos in connection with the apprentice strikes of 1937, 1939, 1941, 1952, 1960 and 1964 on the Clyde and elsewhere. I am writing a history of the strike movements, which date back to 1912 and which centred on Clydeside and Manchester.

I was involved in that strike during my (I think) second year. One of the organizers was Alex Ferguson (now Sir Alex) of Manchester United. I don't know if Billy Connolly was involved but I know he did take part in a lot of the support efforts at the time of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders' yard occupation.
