Introduction

If you’ve find yourself flummoxed by some of the exotic lingo spouted by the climbers, or are bamboozled by the concept of ‘E11’ – then you’re not alone. Help is at hand; here, you’ll find a translation service. There’s also a brief history of the events that have shaped Cairngorms climbing history.

In addition, if you’re inspired by the breathtaking landscape and environment in which the Great Climb is taking place, there are suggestions for books to read to help you find out more about the wild Cairngorms and the climbing to be found there.

Finally, there are links to websites where you can:

  • Discover more about the organisations that are helping to protect and enhance this unique mountain vastness
  • Places where you can learn to enjoy its more adventurous aspects safely
  • Some great spots where you can watch wildlife – and eat cake!
