The Great Climb aims to deliver an unusual and exciting television event unparalleled in recent years. It is designed to allow a window onto the lives and activities of an elite group of extreme climbers, and also the extraordinary landscape of the high Cairngorms.

However, capturing the unique live action on camera is likely to prove no less a challenge for the dedicated team of climbing cameramen, riggers, safety supervisors and broadcasters who will follow every move – and every fall – every step and stumble of the way.

The logistical problems of operating in such remote and ecologically sensitive terrain are enormous. But the crew also face the huge problem of pioneering the filming of live action in ‘High Definition’ from an extreme rock climber’s perspective – a task that will demand radically innovative techniques.

Here, the people behind the scenes explain their passion for their professions – and how they intend to use it to face up to the challenge ahead.
