| This website has been developed
to correspond with the Geography Intermediate Environmental Hazards
component of the curriculum. It aims to encourage independent learning
and provides the students with a dynamic and participative learning
experience. The website can be used as a stand-alone resource and
also to support the teaching of the unit Environmental Hazards. |
 |
 |
| The site does not aim to
teach everything the student needs to know about Environmental Hazards
but instead focuses on two specific case studies. By investigating
the case studies in depth the student will become aware of the cause,
impact, prediction and action involved in contrasting Environmental
Hazards. It will also equip students with skills on how to answer
exam style questions. The site has been designed with the intention
of allowing teachers to develop their own methods of delivery, using
the site the way they feel most appropriate to their class and level.
|
 |
 |
While the site does not aim
to cover all of the outcomes for the unit it aims to meet the following
learning objectives:
Students are able to identify and describe the features of geographical
environments.
Students are able to make links between the physical environment and
the human environment.
Srudents are able to describe and explain the interactions in geographical
environments.
Students are able to extract, process and analyse geographical information. |
 |
 |
The site has been divided
into two broad learning areas, each featuring a case study.
Within each case study the user is free to explore each of the sub
headings in any order they wish but we suggest they work through the
site in the order outlined on the Students Page.
The Site
Map can also be used for navigation. It gives a complete listing
of all the pages in the site.
The Students
page advises users how to work through the site independently and
gives direct links to Revision
and Summary
Pages. It also contains a list of useful websites that can be
used for further research. |
 |

Listed below are some websites
that can be used as further research into the case studies and which
give general information about 'Floods' and Volcanoes'.

| The Environmental Hazards
site complements two television programmes on Intermediate Geography;
you can view transmission times here.
The site is part of a range of Intermediate websites which can be
found here. |

Notes
The geography curriculum
changed in 2004. Volcanoes remain part of the new syllabus
however floods are no longer covered at Intermediate 2.
From January 2003 Ordnance Survey has re-branded some symbols. This
means that on the 1:50 000 map A-class roads have been changed from
red to green. On this site all the A-class roads remain red but please
be aware in exams they may appear green. |
