The site aims to give you
detailed information on two Environmental Hazards case studies. The
first is a weather-related case study on flooding in Inverness on
8 September 2002. The second is a non-weather related case study about
the volcanic eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano on Montserrat
on 25 July 1997. Each of the case studies
has the following areas to investigate:
Introduction
Cause
Impact
Prediction
Action
We suggest you work though each area in the order outlined above,
starting with the Introduction. When you have completed a section
print the 'Summary' and then try the Exercise as this
will consolidate what you have learned.
The site
map provides a link to each page within the site. If you wish
to visit a specific section, or page, the site map will be a useful
tool. |
 |
 |
| The Revision
section offers sample exam questions specific to each case study.
You have the option to compose an answer and compare it to a suggested
answer. These answers can be printed and used for further revision.
This section also gives tips for answering exam questions. |
 |
 |
| The Summary
Pages give the main conclusions for each section of the site.
These pages can be printed and may be useful for revision purposes.
The summary pages can be accessed in two ways. A specific summary
will appear at the end of each section of the site. Additionally,
all the summary pages can be accessed by selecting 'Summary Pages'
from the site map or selecting the above link. |

Notes
The geography curriculum changed in 2004. Volcanoes
remain part of the new syllabus however floods are no longer
covered at Intermediate 2.
From January 2003 Ordnance Survey has re-branded some symbols. This
means that on the 1:50 000 map A-class roads have been changed from
red to green. On this site all the A-class roads remain red but please
be aware in exams they may appear green. |
