Rises in Switzerland at a height of 1753m, crosses Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) then flows south though France to its delta, the Camargue on the Mediterranean coast.
Has the largest water flow of all French rivers thanks to its many Alpine tributaries. Can be difficult to navigate, with many rapids and steep gorges.
