Ask a Teacher - Geography - Physical - A Question from Shell

Student Name Shell
Question Describe and explain the formation of a tarn
Answer The word 'tarn' refers to a small lake/loch in a mountain. They are often found in the base of a corrie with the water being kept in by the lip of the corrie. The tarn will have been created once the ice had melted after the creation of the corrie. In a sense the formation of a tarn can be the final step in the creation of a corrie loch.
