Ask a Teacher - Geography - Physical - A Question from Han

Student Name Han
Question How are river flood plains formed?
Answer In the middle and lower course of a river the river will have most energy when it almost about to burst over its banks. If the river burst its banks it will cover any adjacent flat land or its flood plain. As it does so it covers the plain with a deposit of silt. If this flooding is repeated over time the flood plain build up in height.
