Ask a Teacher - Geography - Physical - A Question from Ruth

Student Name Ruth
Question What are frost shattered slopes?
Answer Frost shattered slopes refer to the upper areas of a mountain that has been eroded by a process called "freeze-thaw". Water enters the cracks in the rock, the temperature drops the water freezes, expands and causes the gap to widen. This continues to happen over time till the fragment of rock is dislodged and falls to the base of the slope. This gives the mountain side a rough shattered appearance.
